The Thai police arrested a British citizen on Friday (18) after the bodies of six babies who would have been used in a black magic ritual, were found inside suitcases in a hotel room in Bangkok. Hok Kuen Chow, 28, a British citizen born in Hong Kong and whose parents are from Taiwan, was arrested in Bangkok’s Chinatown and arrested for possession of human remains, police said. Authorities believe he tried to smuggle the bodies to Taiwan.

“Bodies are for children aged between two and seven months. Some were found covered with leaves of gold,” said the head of the division unit for the Protection of Women and Children police, Wiwat Kumchumnan. Kuen was staying at a hotel in Khao San Road, Bangkok area travelers, but the bodies were found in another hotel. Police had received a warning that the bodies of children were being offered to customers through a rich listing advertising services for black magic.

The bodies were bought by a Taiwanese 200,000 Baht (U.S. $ 12,730) and could be sold for up to 1.2 million Baht (just over U.S. $ 76,000) this amount in Taiwan, police said. Rituals of black magic are still practiced in Thailand, where psychics offer ceremonies to reverse the bad luck. Kuen can be sentenced to one year imprisonment and a fine of 2,000 baht if found guilty.
